To Iraqi and Arab brothers and sisters

Hana Abdul Ilah Albayaty, BRussells Tribunal

20 April 2006
With your help and support, the BRussells Tribunal was able to inform world public opinion on the sufferings of the educated class in Iraq under the occupation and its collaborators. The signatures of support for this campaign reached more than 8000, of persons and organisations, representing the world’s intellectual elite.
We are continuing our campaign. We now have a network of relations all over the world that we hope to mobilise to defend Iraqi academics and help them.
We are happy that many other groups are adopting this just campaign and we will work to cooperate and coordinate our efforts while remaining vigilant that collaborators with the occupation not use the martyrdom of our brothers and sons for personal or sectarian interests. In our opinion, those who wish to defend Iraqi academics should begin by condemning those who created the situation where these crimes continue and go unpunished.
the BRussells Tribunal declared, and declares, that defending academics is not separate from defending international law, which condemns the occupation, from defending international humanitarian law, which condemns the acts and policies of the occupation, and from the necessity of being in solidarity with the Iraqi people and their national anti-occupation movement.
Your support of the BRussells Tribunal campaign reminds the world that Iraqi intellectuals will not be subjugated to force and that they have the force of right.
Your support of the BRussells Tribunal campaign is a condemnation of all assassinations, arrests, firings, oppression, awe, impoverishment and starvation, and forced exile to which Iraqi intellectuals are subjected.
Your support of the BRussells Tribunal campaign is a demand for compensation and justice, which all affected families are due; a demand to free prisoners, to stop the campaign of oppression; to permit those who were dismissed to return to work, and those subject to forced exile to return to their homes.
Your support of the BRussells Tribunal campaign is a condemnation of the ignorance that governs Iraq since the occupation until now.
Your support of the BRussells Tribunal campaign defends the intellectual rights of freedom of thought, expression, organisation, work, research, innovation, welfare, life and developing the homeland.
Your support of the BRussells Tribunal campaign supports the right of Iraqis to science and education.
Your support of the BRussells Tribunal campaign is that you are in the frontline of those who defend freedom, progress, human rights and peoples’ rights, far from sectarianism and self-interest.
There is no free Iraq if there is no free Iraqi intellectual.
There will be no development in Iraq if its intellectuals don’t enjoy the care and gratitude of the nation.
We all should protect the national wealth that is our army of scientists, technicians, administrators, culture workers, civil and military. Without them Iraq cannot stand again.
As for the sea-foam, this will vanish.
Support our action and encourage us
